Hey Mama to be!

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re on the lookout for the perfect time to take newborn photos. Well, you’re in the right place! I’m a newborn photographer based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. I am all about timeless and dreamy vibes, using organic fabrics, soft textures, and a neutral colour palette to capture the magic of those first days in my cosy studio.

So, let’s spill the beans on when’s the sweet spot for getting those adorable newborn photos.

The Sweet Spot: Days 6 to 14

They will never be this little again, ever! Their wrinkly skin will slowly get filled, their tiny fingernails will start to grow, flaky skin will smooth out and their tiny details will be gone within the blink of an eye. Your precious baby changes the most in their first few weeks.. but one think that tends to remain consistant is that newborn babies sleep A LOT.. in fact around 18 hours per day in their first week!! So, If you are looking for newborn photography that captures this ever so fleeting, sleepy newborn bubble.. then this is the time frame to do it!

The One Month Window: Can you have newborn photos done past two weeks old?

The answer is, absolutely!!! In fact, you may prefer to have your newborn baby captured after the two week mark. I’ve set my lens on newborns up to one month old because, let’s face it, that first month is a whirlwind of adorable chaos. Those initial two weeks are golden for those snuggly, sleepy shots. But, by extending it to one month, we capture those evolving expressions and tiny changes that happen way too fast.

Why Choose an Older Newborn Shoot?

Now, let’s talk about the benefits of opting for a photoshoot with your little one as an older newborn. Picture this: a longer time in the newborn bubble at home without being disturbed. It’s like having an extended stay in that cozy cocoon of baby bliss. If your baby is premature, we may wait until they are a little bigger before carrying out the shoot. Usually I suggest for them to get up to at least 6lb. For those who’ve had a Caesarean, it provides ample time for recovery. And, for every parent, it allows a more relaxed adjustment period to the beautiful chaos of having a baby. With my relaxed style of newborn photography, eyes closed or eyes awake, I assure you that you will have beautiful newborn images to treasure forever!!

Timeless Style: Soft Vibes Only

Now, let’s talk newborn photography style. Instead of obsessing over your baby’s age, I’ve got a pro tip for you: go with the style you love. My mantra? Keep it timeless, keep it natural. I’m all about organic fabrics, soft textures, and a palette that’s easy on the eyes. Why? Because simplicity is where the magic happens. Unposed, genuine moments that reflect the beauty of your baby in their most natural state – that’s the goal!
